There are plenty of historic hotels and B&B's both in downtown New Hope and throughout the Bucks County and Lambertville countryside (some are even rumored to be haunted by restless Colonial ghosts). It's best to get a room that's within walking distance of the center of town if your goal is to explore the shops and art galleries of Lambertville and New Hope -- Main Street parking is a rare and precious thing. But if the purpose of your getaway is a peaceful country retreat, choose lodging in the woods, in a charming farm or along the Delaware River, where you will have instant access to nature.
BED AND BREAKFASTS Pineapple Hill Bed and Breakfast Address: 1324 River Road Rates: $104 - $249 Word of Mouth: "The pool outside was extremely refreshing with the summer heat in full blast. We stayed in the Magnolia, which is a gorgeous suite. We had our own entrance to the five-acre backyard. Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings was phenomenal. The chef, Cookie, didn't earn his name for nothing!" -- BedandBreakfast.com contributor
Porches Bed and Breakfast Address: 20 Fishers Alley Rates: $95 - $250 Word of Mouth: "The owners John and Chrissy were so nice and accommodating, and had no qualms about telling the history of the building, how it began as a granary and now it is a B&B with a beautiful garden. If you stay, say hello to Spencer the cat and Maya the Doberman. I would definitely return." -- BedandBreakfast.com contributor
Martin Coryell House Address: 111 North Union Street, Lambertville, NJ Rates: $155 - $279 Word of Mouth: "Beautiful and restful lodgings, and is strolling distance from Lambertville shopping, the canal path, and New Hope PA, without New Hope's crowds. Chimney Hill Estate Inn Address: 207 Goat Hill Road, Lambertville, NJ Rates: $169 - $419 Word of Mouth: "It is a stone's throw from all of the action in Lambertville. …The setting is bucolic. Ambience, ambience on the quiet hillside. … We stayed in the barn room suite, which was rustic and luxurious (all new but with a distinctly historic patina). From our private patio we could enjoy Terry's Alpacas and other wildlife. The place itself is simply gorgeous. We enjoyed the Main House, sitting by the fire, drinking coffee, and reading the daily newspapers and the area restaurant menus laid out by Terry. The breakfasts themselves were sinful. A banana French toast strudel, fresh fruit, delicious sausage, bananas and cream (sprinkled with nuts and raisins), and an egg souffle were superb." -- BedandBreakfast.com contributor
The Inn at Bowman's Hill Address: 518 Lurgan Road Rates: $295 - $535 Word of Mouth: "Every last detail was thought of, from the teapot to the Champagne, the sewing kit to the nail file, the DVD player (and a whole library of DVD's) to the decadent bedside box of chocolates. One could curl up by the fireplace after soaking in the tub for two with the power jets. The overall experience could be summed up as perfectly toasty, warm and cozy -- a delightful blend of modern convenience and old-fashioned relaxation." -- BedandBreakfast.com contributor
Cordials Bed & Breakfast Address: 143 Old York Road Rates: $85 - $160 Word of Mouth: "The owners are so nice and down to earth. They are helpful, but they don't suffocate you. They spoiled us with yummy homemade cakes, homemade bread and delicious quiche! Nice rooms, quiet, with a patio or balcony, and you can walk to Main Street. There is also a fabulous restaurant within walking distance." -- BedandBreakfast.com contributor
HOTELS Hotel du Village Address: 2535 North River Road Average Rate: $127 Word of Mouth: "On beautiful grounds, the hotel is clean to the point of sanitized, and decorated with period furniture and wall hangings. The rooms are cozy with views of the Bucks County countryside all the way to the hills across the tranquil Delaware River. Add to this the most smashing restaurant imaginable, and you have an unforgettable stay at one of America's great hotel treasures." -- TripAdvisor contributor
Lambertville House Address: 32 Bridge Street, Lambertville, NJ Average Rate: $297 Word of Mouth: "When I walked into the room, my first thought was: boy I wished my bedroom or guest room could look just like this. The look was comfortable, elegant yet homey. But my favorite thing was the very deep Jacuzzi tub!" -- Eloine
Inn at Lambertville Station Address: 11 Bridge Street, Lambertville, NJ Average Rate: $125 Word of Mouth: "The room was very spacious with two queen beds, plus a table, nightstand, dresser with TV, and four chairs. What more could you ask for? The room also faced the creek that empties into the Delaware. We strongly recommend asking for such a room, as you can listen to the flowing creek while going to sleep. They also include a continental breakfast that is brought to your room." -- N6JM
The Logan Inn Address: 10 West Ferry Street Average Rate: $110 Word of Mouth: "Yes, the Inn is reported to be haunted, and we stayed in the infamous 'room 6.' Although we had no paranormal encounters, we had a great time! … The tavern downstairs was filled with both locals and inn guests, and the crowd was very friendly. Saturday night featured live music, and it was a great time." -- Novelisteye
The Lexington House Address: 6171 Upper York Road Average Rate: $379 Word of Mouth: "The grounds were beautifully landscaped and meticulously maintained, so much that butterflies filled the beautiful gardens. And, if I were to hit the lotto, I would essentially build the same exact pool they have at the Lexington: a two-level pool with a wading area that poured into a large swimming pool. We spent a large part of our afternoon sipping Champagne and relaxing in the pool." -- october1917
