Accommodations in the city of Napa include motels, chic bed and breakfasts in historic homes, upscale inns, and a brand-new full-service hotel. Many properties are centrally located, so you can walk just about everywhere. You will need a car to venture into the valley, where lodging includes a handful of moderate motels and an array of pricey golf or spa resorts. The choice of charming inns tucked away in vineyard settings increases each year, and nearly all include a bountiful breakfast in the rate. Throughout the valley, it's common for inns also to offer complimentary tea and goodies or evening wine and cheese -- factors to consider when comparing prices. Advance reservations are essential for summer weekends and during the fall grape crush.
BED AND BREAKFASTS Old World Inn Address: 1301 Jefferson Street Rates: $159 - $395 Word of Mouth: " We both live busy stressful lives. We hoped our stay here would allow us to relax. After a week in Painter 2 I cannot remember what stress is. Not having to plan breakfast or do dishes makes mornings truly easy (especially when you start each day with a soak in the porcelain tub). The canopy bed and fire place drew us in for hours each day. To ice the cake, we got engaged by the fire." -- BedandBreakfast.com contributor
Starr Mansion Address: 503 Mclane Street, Vallejo Rates: $115 - $290 Word of Mouth: "Our stay at Starr Mansion was great. Upon arrival the six well-lit palm trees were absolutely beautiful and the well-manicured grounds were a sign of things to come. The inside was just as impeccably maintained. The hosts, Dennis, Evelyn and Nancy, were very hospitable and their attention to detail showed throughout the newly renovated property. The breakfasts were outstanding. We highly recommend this B&B for your stay. Well located, minutes away from Napa Valley and centralized between SF and Sacramento." -- BedandBreakfast.com contributor
The Inn on First Address: 1938 First Street Rates: $185 - $375 Word of Mouth: "Incantment (our room) was impeccably decorated, comfortable and inviting. The grounds were beautifully landscaped -- we have great pictures of the passionfruit flowers to prove it! But the breakfasts ... ahhh ... the Dutch pancakes were to die for, homemade granola, delicious coffee and wonderful hosts. What more could you want?" -- BedandBreakfast.com contributor
Wine Country Inn Address: 1152 Lodi Lane, Saint Helena Rates: $145 - $640 Word of Mouth: "Wine Country Inn is a classic old home that has been meticulously updated with new exceptional cottages. Though expensive, we received excellent value in return. Having limo service to the restaurants is very nice. We enjoyed sitting in the beautiful common areas, out on the deck overlooking the luscious gardens, or relaxing by the pool enjoying a variety of fresh foods for breakfast and afternoon appetizers with wine, both bountiful." -- BedandBreakfast.com contributor
Beazley House Address: 1910 First Street Rates: $155 - $339 Word of Mouth: " Our first stay was wonderful. We stayed in the 'Blossom View' room with the fireplace and Jacuzzi. The hot chocolate chip cookies were an extra plus that we couldn't get enough of! Our second stay was even better with additions of a flat-screen TV, better personal amenities, complimentary soft drinks (though the addition of water would be nice), and ... get this ... 51,228-thread-count microfiber sheets!!!" -- BedandBreakfast.com contributor
HOTELS Napa River Inn Address: 500 Main Street Average Rate: $290 Word of Mouth: "The Napa River Inn recaptures the history of the best of the city of Napa. The hotel has been lovingly restored, with beautiful rooms, a lovely view of the Napa River and Riverwalk. Hotel service is wonderful, and the breakfast served in your room from the property's nearby bakery, 'Sweetie Pie's,' is delicious enough to carry you through to the dinner hour! Easy walking distance to many fine restaurants, the Napa Opera House and the renovated city center." -- CarlyMc_8
Chablis Inn Address: 3360 Solano Avenue Average Rate: $117 Word of Mouth: "This hotel is right off the main highway that takes you to all the vineyards, so it's a great, safe and quiet area. River Terrace Inn Address: 1600 Soscol Avenue Average Rate: $253 Word of Mouth: "The River Terrace Inn offers a luxurious atmosphere with a nice lounge area where we spent the evenings drinking wine and sampling their cheese platter (highly recommended). The breakfast included is spot on with a wide range of hot cooked food, cereal, continental breakfast and fresh fruit. The hotel also offers complimentary DVD service which is a nice touch and allows you to make the most of the large flat-screen TV's in the bedrooms." -- Misspotatohead
Inn at Sonoma Address: 630 Broadway, Sonoma Average Rate: $197 Word of Mouth: "The Inn has all the romance of a B&B with the amenities of a hotel. The Inn is located two blocks from the plaza so you can walk to just about everything. Our room had a fireplace and a patio. The breakfast was amazing and the staff was extremely helpful. We lounged around all morning eating breakfast in bed, watching a movie and enjoying our fireplace." -- passingthrough10
Wine Valley Lodge Address: 200 South Coombs Average Rate: $129 Word of Mouth: "Although there is nothing romantic or luxurious about this place, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I am here now, using their free Wi-Fi after having a great night on their pillow-top bed. The room is plain but spotless, with new paint and new carpet. ... As for noise, now that the bridge is complete there is none. The motel is on a quiet residential street. At under $100 a night it is a real find in Napa! " -- humanone
