Vandiver Inn (Havre de Grace, MD)Author: Evelyn M. Thorpe
Date of Trip: September 2007
I have a twin sister. Between the two of us and our respective husbands we have ten children. They, the children, are ten of forty three grandchildren on our parents side alone. The reason why I'm am telling you this is that the Bed and Breakfast Inn that we just attended was the scene of her eldest daughter Cecilia's wedding. She is also very special to me in the fact that she is my goddaughter, too. It took them no time at all, once they saw the inn to realize that the Vandiver Inn in Havre de Grace, Maryland was where she and her fiance, Frankie wanted to begin their lives together as one. The beauty and charm surrounding the inn is absolutely breathtaking, from the beautifully decorated victorian apartments to the glorious views of the Chesapeake Bay. We stayed for the entire weekend, from the rehearsal dinner, which all apartment guests were invited to attend, to the day after the wedding. There was absolutely nothing rushed in this affair. I know it's something that the happy couple and their guests will remember for many years to come, that's how impressed we all were.
The owners John and Susan were most hospitable, taking care of the most minute details. The food was excellent and very plentiful. The choices for the dinners and breakfasts were worth waking up for. They even made suggestions for places to go after the reception was over so it seemed like the party was endless. We literally parked our cars and walked to many destinations in the area. The waterfront had a boardwalk that seemed endless but yet kept you within walking distance to the inn. If you like an antique atmosphere, this is the town for you. I would not hesitate in suggesting this to my own children when the time comes for them to choose a place to wed. My husband and our children, my mother, and many of our sisters and brothers, we have ten siblings altogether, still talk about the lovely and memorable time we had there celebrating another of our extended families very special occasions.
