El Faro Ecolodge in Salinas, Ecuador

One of the best places I've found in my travels this year was the El Faro Ecolodge on the beach in Salinas. Just 3 blocks off the main road this turned out to be a hidden delight for those looking for out of the way places.

This amazing "jungle-like" lodge has cockatiels and macaws that sit quietly on their perches. Large blue parrots climb the trees. Chickens, peacocks and turtles share the walkway and monkeys come to your table hoping to snatch a small piece of bread.

Plants and flowers line the walkway to the 2 story scenic overlook. Below is a bar where you can have a beer, talk with your friends and enjoy the waves crashing on the rocks below. Above the bar is an open area where you can dine on shrimp ceviche or have your favorite cocktail while watching the ships out on the water.

The rooms have all been designed by masters in woodwork, with all furniture made from tree branches twisted into various shapes. They are clean and comfortable with cold air, hot showers, wy-fy and a staff of friendly people. It's a wonderful place to relax, enjoy the beach or just to meet with friends.

For $45 night, breakfast included, I found this to be a bargain.
