Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Michigan

America's first officially recognized National Lakeshore, located on 40 miles of Lake Superior, the sandstone cliffs of Pictured Rocks extend 50 to 200 feet above the largest, deepest and coldest of all the Great Lakes.

Although there are plenty of winter activities for hardy Midwesterners, it is summer that pulls people out onto its pristine waters with spectacular views of the mineral-stained and weather-sculpted cliffs. Along the 15 miles of coast in the park, campers and hikers explore such treasures as the Grand Sable Dunes, Chapel Falls and Chapel Rock, and nature trails in the white-birch forest.
