Galapagos

Blue-footed boobies, penguins, sea lions and the world's largest tortoises await in the wild Galapagos Islands -- and 2012 is a great year to see them. To protect the sensitive local environment, new regulations take effect in February that restrict Galapagos cruises from visiting the same site more than once in a 15-day period (with one exception, the Charles Darwin Research Station on Santa Cruz Island). For travelers, this means that itineraries will be more diverse, including stops at islands that had previously not been open to tourism.
