Gay/Lesbian Guides
Over the past few years, several new guidebooks geared toward gay and lesbian
travel have appeared, all distinguishing themselves by providing something unique,
but all written with the understanding that being gay or lesbian influences one's
choices of accommodations, nightlife and dining. Here are some of our recommendations:
Fodor's is a great choice
for just about any kind of travel publication, and their coverage of gay and lesbian
travel is no exception. Fodor's
Gay Guide to the USA is well-researched and written in a candid style, and
includes a wide variety of suggestions, from the typical restaurants, clubs and
hotels to Georgian-style Victorian inns and ultramodern dance clubs.
In addition, Damron publishes
the Damron Men's Travel Guide and The Damron Women's Traveller, which have both
gotten rave reviews from readers and are available on their Web site.
But let's face it, not all gay and lesbian travelers are planning trips to San
Francisco and New York City. There are several guides out there for those in search
of more unusual destinations, like Cracks
in the Iron Closet: Travels in Gay and Lesbian Russia, Amsterdam
Scene, Frommer's
Gay and Lesbian Europe, and Gay
Travel A-Z: The World of Gay and Lesbian Travel Options at Your Fingertips.
