This region may be known for its titular Rocky Mountain range, but it's also home to many other examples of natural splendor. Idaho houses vast, rolling desert, white water rivers, volcanic landscapes, and lush green woods. In Wyoming and Montana, you can go hiking and wildlife-spotting in Grand Teton National Park, and marvel over Yellowstone's geysers and petrified trees. Utah has excellent ski resorts and Temple Square in Salt Lake City. Last but certainly not least, Colorado offers some of the country's best winter sports as well as the art museums of Denver and the cool college town of Boulder.
