The Toyoko Inn chain of business hotels offers clean Western-style hotel rooms at reasonable rates. Rooms are cramped and the chances of your window looking out onto a brick wall are high, but the experience resonates well with much of Tokyo life. A free Japanese-style breakfast will be available each morning. More than 30 Toyoko Inns are in Tokyo proper, with several options in western Tokyo. Our favorite is the Toyoko Inn Ikebukuro No. 1, easy to find after a straight-shot, four-minute walk from a major stop on the JR Line. (Note that that Ikebukuro No. 2 is also in the vicinity, so make sure you go to the right one.)
