Tokyo is an expensive city to sleep in, and even budget options will end up eating holes into your coffer. But the generally high levels of quality and cleanliness will make it clear you are getting what you pay for while staying in any Tokyo hotel. Luxury Western-style hotels are plentiful; a fleet of standard business hotels have fewer frills, but can make a lengthy stay more affordable. Japanese-style ryokan and minshuku will allow you to sleep on futons laid upon tatami mats. Rounding out the category are the more quirky options of capsule hotels (where you pay a reasonable fee for a human-sized compartment in which to sleep) or love hotels, which often boast themes and will let you pay for a couple hour's "rest" or an overnight "stay." Visiting a love hotel is a fun Tokyo experience, but keep in mind that you're not meant to be able to come and go as you please; the doors usually lock for the duration of your stay.

For the traveler in Tokyo, a majority of the points of interest will be in the western part of the city, so staying in the neighborhoods of Shinjuku, Shibuya or the less-happening (but more affordable) Ikebukuro would be a wise choice. The options below are all generally located in west Tokyo and are merely a sampling of countless accommodation choices throughout the city.
