A mecca for business travelers throughout the Middle East, Cairo has no shortage of first-class hotels. Many have reduced rates, especially on weekends, as occupancy has fallen significantly since the January 2011 revolution (rates at the Nile Kempenski -- one of Cairo's nicest downtown hotels -- were under $200 a night during the peak Christmas season on one travel site we checked). No matter where you stay, ask for a room on a high floor; Cairo's noise never stops.
