Beyond the experience of a trip itself, one of the true pleasures of traveling is looking back on your journeys, remembering your favorite moments, and sharing those memories with family and friends.

We’ve found a cool new way to do just that, and now we want to share it with you. Lightravels offers world and U.S. maps with illuminated light pegs that you can use to mark the countries and cities you’ve visited in a colorful, visual way. The framed maps, which weigh about 10 pounds and measure 33 x 22 x 3 inches, come with 60 light pegs in six different colors — perfect for showing which places you’ve visited on different journeys. Watch the video below to learn more:

The maps retail for $229.99 plus shipping, but Lightravels is giving one away for free to one lucky IndependentTraveler.com reader. To win, leave a comment below telling us which map you’re most interested in and why you want to win it. (You can see the selection of world maps here.)

You must enter by 11:59 p.m. ET on December 31, 2012. A winner will be chosen at random from all entries received. Be sure to include a valid e-mail address so we can contact you in case you win. This giveaway is only open to residents of the 48 contiguous United States or the District of Columbia. Please click here for the full contest rules.

I would love to win the Modern World Map (RMWM) to add to my grandchildren’s computer and study room. They are 6, 10, 11 and 13 and just starting to travel. They work hard on researching areas they are going to and locating where they are and information about them. What a wonderful way to help them with that process and to mark where they have been :)

I would just love to win your Illuminated World Map. Our daughter & son-in law have travelled all over the world and they have a huge world map in their hallway. They have pinpointed all the places they have been and our grandchildren just love looking at all the places. When they come to visit our house they always ask why we don’t have a world map so they could show us all the places Mommy and Daddy have been (and they have been to many places too). It would be so delightful for us to have a map that they could light up all the places and show us too! Thanks so much for the opportunity to enter this contest – hope I am lucky!!

I would like to win the NGWM map (World Explorer Map). Our grandsons and their parents are now in Stuttgart Germany; dad is a naval officer and has already been stationed in Naples Italy and he hopes to go to Spain next. Our granddaughter lives in the Seattle Washington area; she travels to the east coast of the US quite regularly for family time with dad and her grandparents(us). If we had a world map, we could track our grandchildren, our travels, and show our granddaughter when she visits exactly where her cousins are calling home at that moment. She loves maps even though she’s not yet 5; she can find the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean on our map book in our auto. Our grandsons are already world travelers at ages 13, 11 and 7; in addition to Naples and Stuttgart, they have been in Dubrovnik, London, Sioily, Rome, and many other European cities. They and their parents are exploring Germany presently; we hope to see them in June 2013 since flying out for an 18 day visit.

Thank you.

  39. Kathy says:

I would love to win one of the NGEWM maps. I travel as much as I am able and enjoy taking my family when they can go. As others mentioned it would be an excellent family heirloom.

We would love the Classic World Map! I have just retired and my husband and I are on a quest to “see the world”… this would not only document our travels, but would help to educate our grandchildren as to where in the world we actually go! We own a tour business locally and would proudly display this beautiful map so all our customers could see it too! It’s like having a “light brite” for adults!

  45. Steve Costner says:

I would love to win the Modern World Map. My wife and I cruise frequently and take many other trips and we love to speak to others about our destinations. Also, I teach the coin collecting merit badge to Boy Scouts and could use the map in my presentations. 46. Hello and GREETINGS from Dakar, Senegal!

I would LOVE to win the map for my son. He’s 17, American, and goes to school in Dakar, Senegal, West Africa. He lives in a boarding house there and goes to regular Senegalese schools so he speaks French, Wolof and English. He has met literally hundreds of travelers from all over the world thru the B&B and traveling business.

It would be REALLY NEAT if he could track all the people he has met on this map and it will be a GREAT KEEPSAKE to take back with him to the US when he goes for college next year!

My permanent address is in Pensacola, Florida.
